TURNITINTOYOURS

speculative naming

Turnitin is a plagiarism-detection tool teachers use to scan students’ assignments for evidence of ChatGPT. It’s the luminol of academia.

It works fine, and there are other such tools, but what to do with results that say there’s a 70% chance the paper is plagiarized? And who wants to be a cop anyway.

TurnItIntoYours: Compose a prompt together and get a ChatGPT result. Treat the output as a starting point, not finished product.

Each person or team then rewrites it however and however much they want. They can rewrite every word, or they can see how few changes are needed to make it appreciably different and better.

Share results and identify favorite sentences. Who wrote them, ChatGPT or a person? If it turns out that students genuinely prefer sentences written by ChatGPT, agh, not my problem to deal with, but it would be interesting to find out. It’s a way to transfer to students your goals of sniffing out tics and tropes diagnostic of ChatGPT.
